This ship or submarine based cruise missile is designed to attack stationary targets on land. Following a vertical launch the missile flies a terrain skimming pre-programmed trajectory to avoid enemy defenses and use the terrain to its advantage. It uses satellite navigation to pinpoint and update its location. Since it does not rely on an active target location radar, it is immune to radar jamming during the terminal phase of its flight.

The missile comes in two version.

  • The 3M-14E variant cruises at subsonic speeds.
  • The 3M-14TE variant cruises at supersonic speeds.

Because of delays in its planned induction, the Tejas does not adequately address the current and future threats faced by the IAF. There is a strong case for encouraging the IAF and ADA to think beyond the Tejas
