The first bilateral dissimilar air combat (DACT) exercise between the U.S. Air Force and the Indian air force in more than 40 years, Cope India 2004, took place at Gawalior, India in Feb this year. Did the IAF pilots out perform the USAF pilots during the exercise. Tejas LCA Because of delays in its planned induction, the Tejas does not adequately address the current and future threats faced by the IAF. With our current fleet of Mig-29 there could be a great chance of structural/engine modification using our co-operative pool of scientific and technical workforce with the Russians. It will allow more of our pilots to get hands on experience on this wonderfull technology (Thrust Vectoring) giving us an edge so that we not only realy on the Su-30 MKI. Mix and Match. Reply to this Comment mrca purchase for IAF By rajenerupa on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 (EST) I think purchase of 126 mrca fighters from france and russia is best because they dont have sancation against us,and we must purchase mig29ovtand mirage 2000-5 reason is easy to absorb buy our airforce no delays for training or maintaining the aircraft is also easy,mig-29 come vector thrust engine which fantastic thrust ,and it also help us to stop russia sell engine to pakistan via china for j10,which pursed by islamabad.and mirage 2000-5 jet comes with apache and metetorite missle system which also good, third factor is cost important one f-18 is too expensive and has range problem that is combat radius, where as mig 29 and mirage has good combat radius and cost factor,40 migs and 40 mirage will be good.this will buy time for us too concentrate on fifth generation fighter either mig142 or f35. Your english is horrible my friend. Either clean it up or use your mother tongue. The new Suhkoi and upgraded Migs are truly impressive machines. Cheaper than Western fighters of the same calibre, sure. But then you get what you pay for.......life works that way. F15 Eagles and the new F22 cost more, sure. But then again, the Eagle is the only combat aircraft in history to have a perfect combat record. Hundreds of kills and NO loss of an Eagle by any nation using it since it's baptism of fire with Israel over the Sinai. Ask Israel's enemies which aircraft they would rather fly and fight with. I would suggest you ask the Iraqi pilots who flew against it, but after Desert Storm, no Iraqi pilot would take the air against the Eagles, except to run away to Iran. I heard you are getting a aircraft carrier as well. The ability to project airpower anywhere in the world is definitely a good way to spend defense dollars. Kudos to your government. By firefox on Wednesday, February 07, 2007 (EST) Wasnt an F-15J shot down by another F-15J of the JSDF? Weren't a couple of Strike Eagles brought down by groundfire in the Desert Storm? One was lost in Iraqi Freedom. So they can be taken out from the skies! I admit that the F-15 are exceptionally capable aircrafts, but they too have the records of fratricides. Magnificent aircrafts, but equally hyped too! Reply to this Comment Re: Buying Time By shantanu on Wednesday, February 07, 2007 (EST) What planes were the iraqi's flying? We do have some people who cant communicate grammatically correct english with proper punctuations, but note we have some of the brightest minds whom US cant work without. Coming straight to the point, the migs have far more of an edge against the Fs due to the simple reason of history, familiarity, relatively low new support and credibility. Even though both US and Indian govt have some fools, the addition of the costly Carrier is gonna be controversial. The IAF will not go in for other vendors. Reply to this Comment mig 35 vs Fs By vaithi on Tuesday, July 03, 2007 (EST) you get what u paid for? i get a full meal here in chennai for 20 rupees( less than half a US$), but I had to get a decent snack in US for nothing less than 5$ and a meal for 35$ Please dont blurt out stuff.. all economies are not the same! Reply to this Comment Opinion to your comment dated 15 January, 2007 By parth on Monday, November 03, 2008 (EST) Hi, i'm parth, a new face to this group. This may seem a little weird but i'm compelled to reply to one of your comments dated January 15, 2007 to our co-bloger 'rajenrupa' over the Mig-29OVT's prospect of being inducted in the Indian Air Force (IAF). A VERY OLD topic, i know, but i was just randomly surfing through this web site's pages when i came across your comments on rajenrupa's grammar and spelling errors and subsequently your views on the F-15 and the MIGs. First, irrespective of whose views are right or wrong, whether your's or the other person's, i personally feel that in a debate or a discussion, one should always employ fair and just means to express his/her views or to render the opposition speechless (if required). Your mockery on rajenpura's english & grammar was a very insulting and humiliatng tactict used by you in that discussion. This does not imply that you have to blindly agree to what the other person says; everyone has a complete right to express views and opinions and subsequently advocate his/her viewpoint. But this has to be done only by limiting the debate over the disputed topic and not by picking upon the opponent's personal handicaps & shortcomings. Challenging him/her factually, statistically is all fair and just, but resorting to such means does not provide a level playing ground for the debate/discussion. This rather gives an unjust victory to this tactict's employer. The victim is left bewildered by such a scathing & humiliating attack and thus is deprived of the chance to put forward any relevant counter-argument (if he/she has any). Please try and put yourself in his shoes and imagine his plight. Second, the IAF, since its inception in the 1930's and then its separation from the Royal Air Force some few years later, has been used to handle Russian, French and British flying machines. Induction of an American aircraft will be coupled with an altogether different infrastructure for maintainence. And most importantly, it will take years for the indian pilot's & particularly the mechanic's hands to get acclamitized to an American aircraft. We can't afford to waste such precious time given the current state of affairs when the stakes are high, can we? That's all i wish to say my freind. I least expect you to completely agree to my views, cuz this letter was just a humble expression of what i felt and with due respect to your opinions at the same time. After receiving 15 MiG fighters, Algeria refused further deliveries in May 2007. It then froze all payments under contracts with Russia in October 2007, requiring that Moscow first take back the 15 MiG-29s due to their "inferior quality." Some Russian media sources reported that Algeria had asked Russia to deliver 14 to 16 Su-30 Flanker fighters in exchange for the MiG-29 Fulcrum aircraft it was supposed to receive under the contract. Reply to this Comment english/american By Gajanan on Thursday, February 12, 2009 (EST) bush said we eat more.i say americans talk more.again i say we respect more than them.an american can speak only one language but a small kid from indian city can speak atleast three languages hindi, english and mother tongue. Indians never bombed and killed millions of people what american's did to japanese. we gave religion to japan and china. what did americans give? i think india should go for russian fighters than US made because we could have embargo and face spares shortage. mig's and SU's are easy to operate and easy to kill only enemy i.e. PAKISTAN. in western countries indian should rely on for military warfare equipments only to israel even french and german are good. we have jaguars (european) and mirages (french) which have won the kargil war. these people dont create shortages of spares that americans do. as soon as the political condition in india improves we may not need american advice and machines. they dont do any favour they are desperate to sell their planes. that's it.....JAI HIND!!
